Ivation Portable High Capacity Household Ice Maker w/LCD Display – 2.8-Liter Water Reservoir, 3 Selectable Cube Sizes – Yield of up to 26.5 Pounds of Ice Daily.

Making Ice Cubes by the Bucketload is Easy
How long does it take to freeze water into perfectly sized ice cubes? With Ivation’s automated icemaker, it takes just 6 minutes! That’s right: In less time than it takes to drive to the nearest store or gas station for a bag of ice, you can have a fresh batch of ice cubes made right in the comfort of your own home. Simply pour a water into the bucket and you’ll enjoy beautifully solid chillers that remain separated and don’t agglomerate.

26-pound output. 3 ice sizes. 0 water waste.
The Ice Machine features 3 selectable ice cube sizes so you can satisfy everyone from the whiskey sipper to the juice junkie. At maximum output, it can produce as much as 26.5 pounds of ice in a single 24-hour cycle. Another superior feature is the water recycling system: Unused ice melts back into the water reservoir and is turned into fresh ice during the next ice-making session.

Smart Alerts Inform You of Cold, Hard Facts
When the water level in the 2.8-liter (95-Ounce) reservoir runs low, you’ll be alerted to add more water. When the ice bucket is full, you’ll be alerted to remove them so more ice could be created. Other alerts include ice not moving into the bucket correctly, and when an ice-making session is on standby. The programmable timer allows you to set the icemaker to start and stop on its own at any time of the day, and the unit shuts off automatically when the ice bucket is full for safety. To make way for new ice, store ready cubes in cooler or freezer for later use.

Customer Reviews :

All the ice cubes you want, and it’s very fast
By J. Chambers :

This is a remarkable machine. When it was delivered, it had been sitting in a delivery truck for several hours on a hot sunny day, so the icemaker was warm. And yet, when I plugged it in and filled the reservoir with water, the first ice cubes came rattling out into the tray only 13 minutes later. After a few cycles, the time was down to a consistent 10 minutes for the medium-size ice cubes that we were making.

It couldn’t be much simpler to operate. On the LCD display, you can set the time and use the auto-timer function to control the operating times for the icemaker. You can also select the size of the ice cubes – small, medium, or large. I made some of each size to compare them. The ice cubes resemble thimbles with rounded ends. They’re about an inch and a quarter long, with the diameter varying according to the selected size: large cubes are 1″ in diameter, medium cubes are 0.9″, and small cubes are 0.8″.

The icemaker is rated for producing 26.5 pounds of ice a day. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can start it going, walk away for a few hours, and return to find a bunch of ice cubes. The water reservoir holds 2.8 liters (that’s about 12 cups or 3 quarts), so that’s the limiting factor. But it’s a pretty nifty device to crank out 9 ice cubes every few minutes for as long as you keep the water reservoir filled and empty the ice cube tray periodically. If the reservoir is out of water or the ice cube tray is full, the icemaker beeps to let you know. When you remove the ice cubes, either use them immediately or store them in a freezer or cooler.

You can hear the icemaker when it’s running but it’s not very noisy, and I doubt if you could hear it from an adjacent room. My wife and I were working on our computers about 15 feet away, and after a few minutes, we barely noticed it except when the ice cubes were dropping.

When you need to drain the water, there’s a handy drain hole at the base of the icemaker. The hole is sealed with a silicone plug with a plastic cap screwed on to keep the plug in place. An extra drain plug is included.

This is an impressive portable icemaker, especially for its relatively small size. I can definitely see it being used for a party, in an office, dorm room, or anywhere else where you need ice cubes, as long as electrical power is available.

The icemaker was provided to me for evaluation and review. I did not agree to post a review, but I stated that if I did review the product, it would be an honest, unbiased review.

This makes lovely, chewable ice!
By Terry :

I purchased a portable icemaker for my mother about 10 years ago that works similarly to this one, but it is a monster in size compared to this. Also, I greatly prefer the ice this Ivation icemaker produces. And the other features like the window and the LCD control panel make it much more convenient to use.

You should understand that portable icemakers like this differ in two ways from the built-in icemakers in your refrigerator/freezer. First, you pour the water in and when it is depleted, you must pour in more. (Hint: I suggest using filtered water, particularly if you live in a hard water area. Mineral deposits are tough on appliances.)

Second, the area the ice falls into is not refrigerated, although it is insulated to some degree. So when the ice is made and it falls into the basket, you then need to use it or transfer it to a freezer or an ice chest. Otherwise, the ice will begin to melt and the water will drain down into the water tank to be made into ice again. Thus, it isn’t a machine you just turn on and leave unattended and return to find 26 pounds of ice at the end of the day. But it will produce over 26 pounds of ice in a 24 hour period as long as someone empties the ice basket and replenishes the water as needed.

So out of the box, you will find an attractive machine that weighs about 25 pounds empty and measures about 12″ x 14″ x 13 1/2″. Inside the icemaker is a basket for the ice and a handy plastic scoop. There is also a helpful, well-written user manual.

FYI: You will need 8″-10″ of space next to the air outlet on one side and be certain that the air inlet on the other side of the machine is unobstructed so take that into consideration when deciding where to put this machine.

After letting the machine sit for at least 30 minutes (for the refrigerant to settle), clean the icemaker and plug it in. Pour water into the tank up to the maximum fill line and put the ice basket in place (it has a 95oz. capacity). Using the back-lit LCD panel on the front of the machine, set the time and select the ice size you wish to make and start the machine. You’ll have ice in 10-20 minutes, depending upon the size you select.

The ice is a hollow, bullet shape and it is not the super hard, clear kind. It’s aerated enough to be soft and nice for people who like to chew ice.

The basket holds about 2 pounds of ice and the icemaking process will suspend when the basket is full. It also beeps to let you know the basket is full. That’s a nice feature so I can be busy doing other things.

I really like the window on top so you can see easily how much ice is ready.

This machine is perfect for people who don’t have a built-in icemaker in their freezer or for homes where it would be difficult or impossible to plumb for one. It’s also nice for parties where extra ice is needed. It works perfectly, is a manageable size, and makes very nice ice.

NOTE: I was provided a sample for review, but a positive review was not asked for, promised or implied.

Convenient for folks who use a lot of ice
By Mike Tarrani :

There are already two excellent video reviews of this maker, so I am going to fill in the cracks and try not to repeat the product specs or what has already been said. Like the two other reviewers I received my maker as a review sample.

Operationally this is fairly economical since it draws about two hundred Watts (two old style light bulbs.) I do want to set expectations. This will absolutely produce the claimed 26.5 pounds of ice in a twenty-four hour period, but not all at once. Per cycle it will produce a little less than two pounds. A cycle takes up to twenty plus minutes, depending on the ice size that you select. The smaller ice is made a little faster than the largest of the three different ‘cube’ sizes. Moreover, this will only store a single cycle’s worth of cubes, so if you are using it at a party it will require some management of the completed cubes as well as refilling the maker (it takes 2.8 liters of water per cycle.)

The unit is compact and has a few basic operating requirements, like ensuring that the side vents are not blocked. Also, it is not designed for outdoors use, so factor that in if you are purchasing this for a pool party or BBQ.

What it does do, though, is efficiently product ice on a nearly continuous basis as long as you manually transfer the finished ice to insulated coolers as well as keep the reservoir filled between cycles. In that respect the performance is very impressive, and each load of ice is substantial. I am estimating that one of these can easily keep a party of twenty supplied in ice for drinks. Plus, when you factor in the low energy consumption that I cited above this makes an excellent personal ice maker.
